Thank you, Etsy people
Thanks to your patronage, we’ve hit 400 sales! We surpassed the milestone in my Etsy shop. Thanks to all of you who have visited, and an especially hearty thanks to those who have adorned your walls with my art. Or maybe you’ve given my art as a gift? Either way, awesome. Looking forward, I have big plans for the shop this year. And there’s only 214 days till Christmas....

Phoenix Comicon 2012
It’s time for my favorite show of the year: Phoenix Comicon. This convention is blowing up, with exploding attendance and frivolity. The cosplay peeps have overrun the place, making Saturday at the show feel like a pop culture parade. What: Phoenix Comicon Who: You and me, baby! Where: Phoenix Convention Center, Booth 348 When: May 24-27 (a hot time in the Arizona desert) What again:...

The Creative Wall
When being creative, it can be useful to erect a wall between you—the you that is creating and working—and the outside world. This week, I’ve been notably absent from the interwebs. Maybe I could have posted a note on the pixelated door. “Working creatively, be back soon” In any case, there’s been loads to produce in a compressed month of May. Next week, I...

Grant Morrison is a con man
He’s hitting Vegas with some of his friends. Maybe you’d like to join him? It’s comics and frivolity. And it got my attention. What about you? It’s a con, man. Edit: Limited to 1,000 people. If this makes magic for you, then you better act fast.

Beavis and Zango
This may look like a real-life Beavis, but… Could that actually be Lord Zango? The similarities are startling. Perhaps this is where the Nearly Infamous One has been hiding. On the couch, next to Butthead. You probably know Beavis. Do you know Lord Zango?

Great comic book artist does more good
John Romita, Jr. is a super-prolific, uber-talented comic book artist. He’s been drawing Spider-Man, the X-Men, and more for decades. He’s got a big event coming up, where he’ll be sketching and signing for 50 consecutive hours. No naps, just pushing the pen for a good cause. MTV Geek has the story and a video from JR Jr. Check it out. If you’re near Las Vegas, this will...

You wanted Star Wars Yoga
The super-collected Star Wars Yoga series has been swept away. And it’s not coming back. Unless I get a phone call from the Lucasfilm people begging for more. The embarrassing part is that I heard from Lucasfilm. They said, please stop with the Star Wars stuff. Your work has gotten too big. You’re standing out too much. You’ve exceeded the limits of what we’ll tolerate. ...

There's just something about robots
Being greeted by your dog upon your return home can be supremely uplifting. Dogs are exuberant, bouncing off the walls just because it’s you. They dance, run, wiggle, and furiously wag their tail. It’s you! You’re here! How long have you been gone? I have no idea, but I’m thrilled to see you! Wag wag wag! Happy dog dance! Pet me! Your canine’s joy is contagious....

Keep it indie, keep it real
Looking for indie comics in Central Texas? This weekend, I’ll be at Staple!, Austin’s independent media expo. James O’Barr, the creator of The Crow, is unable to attend the big Staple! festivities, so in his place, you’ll find Yours Truly. Table 28. Lots of art prints and comics. Come by, and we can hug it out.

Yesterday was huge
Today is going to be even huger (more bigger?). I’m wearing a tie in the studio. The look is “business kickass”, complete with jeans and Chuck Taylor’s. Looks like the lid got blown off the Star Wars Yoga stuff. Not sure what to make of it, so I’m keeping my head down. In the meantime, I’ve placed huge orders for paper, shipping tubes, and shipping tape. Back...

You ever have one of those days...
when the internet feels like a warm, snuggly blanket…and then another blanket…and then another? Until you’re under a heap of internet blankets, and the dog has piled on top. Now, you’re just on fire. Internet fire. Update: According to the Etsy stats, my shop has just gone over 10,000 views for the day. Thanks for looking, friendly, geeky internet people.

Super exclusive OH, CLARK! art print
SOLD While I’ve been away from the blog and facebook, I’ve been working on a load of new art. I’ve been experimenting. And I’ve become rather obsessed with classic comic book art. All over again, I’ve been captivated by the way that Roy Lichtenstein took comic book art, and by placing it on the canvas, allowed us to see comic art (and the CMYK printing technique) in...

First hump day of the new year
May be a good day for wearing a funny hat to work. Or maybe crank Prince’s Purple Rain album during your commute, windows down. Or take a twelver of Mountain Dew to share with your co-workers or customers or whomever. Whatever you do to bring some joy and levity to the day, go big with it. Me? Maybe I’ll sport a funny hat and crank the Purple Rain in the studio. Then I’ll get...

You have the thunder
There’s a lot of gobbledygook that can derail your best laid plans. Gobbledygook distracts us, it mesmerizes us, it steals our time and diminishes our capacity for making art, for making awesome, for getting the things done that we wrote on the list (the list that was here a minute ago, but now it’s under a pile of gobbledygook). Think about the gobbledygook that routinely comes...

Getting aggressive
Hello 2012. This year, it may serve the artists, the small business owners, the freelancers, and the indie peeps to be more aggressive. Not saber-rattling and war-mongering and swinging-your-fist-first. I’m talking diligent aggressiveness toward growing your art, your enterprise, your independent megaphone. Like Mr. T after guzzling a twelver of Mountain Dew. Awesomely aggressive. What...

What it's like to be a kid
Wild. Zany. New. Glittery. Weird. Grubby. Adventurous. Outlandish. Intergalactic. Dangerous. Sort of like living the life of Calvin in Calvin & Hobbes. Now that you’re all grown up, how can you get more breakneck, full speed adventure into your life?  Hint: On a snowy day, it might include building a snowman. Doing something absurd. Get wild with it. Scare the neighbors.

Thanking someone for something specific
It’s commonplace for Americans to give thanks on Thanksgiving. Oftentimes, the Thanksgiving thank you is a big tent of thanks, covering friends, family, health, and general well being. Perhaps, in addition to such an all encompassing thanksgiving, you might find someone you would like to thank personally. Maybe your thanks could be for something specific. More specific than “thanks...

Can't we just get married and make super babies?
“Oh, Clark!” art print by Yours Truly. Hot from the studio! This is the first art print in the Wonder Woman pop romance art collection. “Oh, Clark!” draws inspiration from master pop artist Roy Lichtenstein and redoubles the geek chic of classic comics art. THE STORY: Wonder Woman is A strong, heroic woman, but she tears up at the thought of what could be with Clark!...
