Sunday comic strips are the only day of the week you’ll find full-color comics in the newspaper. Already, this seems old-fashioned. I would guess that most of you don’t read the newspaper anymore (for younger readers, you NEVER read the newspaper!), thus you don’t see the funnies on Sunday.
It’s been years since I received the daily paper. Now, all of my news gathering happens online. But I’ve yet to find a suitable way to fill my daily comics appetite. In this digital age, it seems an opportune time for daily funnies. I know that I still crave a daily fix. Ah, how I long for new Calvin & Hobbes!
With the voluminous web comics, there’s bound to be worthy daily reads, right? Maybe you’re reading something regularly online?
Since I never created a big, splashy, full-color Sunday strip for Doggles, we’ll meet our characters instead. For the original submission to the comics syndicates, I prepared bios for the three dogs. So here we go…
Meet the Doggles: Mollie! This character was based on our beloved dog, Mollie. She was a brown and tan Doberman. Her coloring would be called “red” in the Doberman breed standard. However, we affectionately called her “Brownie”, since, you know, the color actually looks more brown than red. But I digress.
In the strip, Mollie took on the shape of a yellow Labrador. She was adorned with a collar, dangling a flower-shaped charm. Her character, a mix of sweetness and unbridled aggression, certainly captured the spirit of the real life Mollie. She was easy going, adorable, and tenacious.
