It’s time for my favorite show of the year: Phoenix Comicon. This convention is blowing up, with exploding attendance and frivolity. The cosplay peeps have overrun the place, making Saturday at the show feel like a pop culture parade.

Snap into it!
Randy Savage was a flashy showman. A gritty entertainer. A professional wrestling champion. He delivered a supremely memorable sales pitch, suggesting we all “snap into a Slim Jim”.
Randy Savage, the Macho Man. Though he passed away last year, his exuberant machismo lives.
This is MACHO: The SLIM JIM Edition, and it’s a limited edition art print of 25. Once these are gone, they are gone. Available now, only at Austin Books in Austin, Texas.
Oooh yeahhh!
When being creative, it can be useful to erect a wall between you—the you that is creating and working—and the outside world. This week, I’ve been notably absent from the interwebs. Maybe I could have posted a note on the pixelated door.
“Working creatively, be back soon”
In any case, there’s been loads to produce in a compressed month of May. Next week, I head to Phoenix Comicon. The summer schedule is jam-packed with projects and a major creative getaway (the biggest summer vacation I’ve had since I was a kid), so I’ve been preparing and planning.
Sent the Macho: Slim Jim limited edition to Austin Books. And yes, I took out the trash, went running, took my son swimming, and fed the dogs.
You may need to build a wall around your Creative Control Center once in a while. It’s more figurative that a real masonry wall, but it can be equally effective in shielding your attention.
Deadly, invisible warriors are lurking in the shadows… Ninja Yoga!
The Yoga Super Pop Collection continues. From the description:
Ninjutsu teaches the art of combat, stealth, strategy, and discipline. However, tight hips and weak quadriceps might be the undoing of even the most skillful ninja. Thus, the ninjas are practicing yoga!
Six ninjas are striking a variety of yoga poses: Extended side angle, bow, standing forward bend, prayer squat, high lunge, and upward-facing dog. Each pose is accompanied by its name in sanskrit.
These ARE the droids you’re looking for. The Yoga Super Pop Collection continues. Thrusting yoga into the mainstream of geek culture. We can’t be stopped.
Robot Yoga! New today. It’s good for your hinges.
I am the master of my fate: the captain of my soul.
These inspiring words come from William Ernest Henley’s famous poem, Invictus. The poem’s title means “unconquered”. Henley’s poem inspired this art print.
When the sea gets rough, don’t drown in circumstances. You’re the captain!
A bit about Henley: The poet suffered with tuberculosis of the bone, and his malady led to the amputation of his left leg, just below the knee. The young Henley was impoverished and struggling to keep his remaining health.
The words of Invictus would later inspire Nelson Mandela while he was imprisoned. Perhaps you may draw on their inspiration as well.
Despite long odds or difficulty, one may choose their course. No matter how rough the waters, you are the captain.
“It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.”
Robots are invading the yoga studio. Coming soon to the Yoga Super Pop Collection…
