It’s time for my favorite show of the year: Phoenix Comicon. This convention is blowing up, with exploding attendance and frivolity. The cosplay peeps have overrun the place, making Saturday at the show feel like a pop culture parade.
What: Phoenix Comicon
Who: You and me, baby!
Where: Phoenix Convention Center, Booth 348
When: May 24-27 (a hot time in the Arizona desert)
What again: SURF’S UP, CAP’N, Phoenix Comicon Exclusive Art Print, Signed and Numbered, Only (50) Available!
He’s hitting Vegas with some of his friends. Maybe you’d like to join him? It’s comics and frivolity. And it got my attention. What about you?
Edit: Limited to 1,000 people. If this makes magic for you, then you better act fast.
This may look like a real-life Beavis, but… Could that actually be Lord Zango? The similarities are startling. Perhaps this is where the Nearly Infamous One has been hiding. On the couch, next to Butthead.
You probably know Beavis. Do you know Lord Zango?
John Romita, Jr. is a super-prolific, uber-talented comic book artist. He’s been drawing Spider-Man, the X-Men, and more for decades.
He’s got a big event coming up, where he’ll be sketching and signing for 50 consecutive hours. No naps, just pushing the pen for a good cause.
MTV Geek has the story and a video from JR Jr. Check it out.
If you’re near Las Vegas, this will be worth your while. Wish I could be there. Instead, I’ll spread the word.
There’s just something about Roy Lichtenstein’s work that makes you want to paint it on your face.
Whaam!, Roy Lichtenstein (1963) (por Andy Alcala)
From the file titled 1000 Steps, Vol. 2, this artwork shows a grown man in the kiddie rocketship ride. Going somewhere fast, obviously. The text, which is missing, says as much. Any questions?

“Oh, Clark!” art print by Yours Truly. Hot from the studio!
This is the first art print in the Wonder Woman pop romance art collection. “Oh, Clark!” draws inspiration from master pop artist Roy Lichtenstein and redoubles the geek chic of classic comics art.
THE STORY: Wonder Woman is A strong, heroic woman, but she tears up at the thought of what could be with Clark! A fairy tale romance may be missed if they don’t take action on their feelings! The love story that you’ve always wanted, presented in glorious CMYK color! “Oh, Clark!”
Halloweenie reminded me of a couple of monsters I’d crafted for The Nearly Infamous Zango. Nothing scares children like fruit. Well, unless you have some broccoli. That’s quite monstrous.
I would love to send Bill Watterson an email. Just a digital note to let him know how much I enjoyed Calvin & Hobbes. I might gush a little, as I am quite smitten with his work on the comic strip.
If he responds, I might take the opportunity to ask him what he’s been up to. I think he lives in Ohio, so I might make some small talk about Ohio, see how he likes it. Poking around, I might ask about his sense of privacy. Probing further, I may ask if he thinks of himself as a recluse, like JD Salinger or Steve Ditko. I would empathize, of course. Then, I’d find a rather terrific segue into the big question:
Why?
